Paintings by Kelly Micca
Kelly Micca (b.1998) is a painter and sculptor whose work is deeply rooted in painting from direct observation. Trained in Rome in both landscape and portraiture, she earned her BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2020 and is currently pursuing her MFA at the New York Academy of Art.
Kelly's practice centers on plein air landscapes and are often in a miniature scale, capturing the immediacy and intimacy of the places she encounters. Her landscape work is also deeply rooted in connection to Philadelphia’s environment, where she’s been compelled to document endangered landmarks, such as the meadows of FDR park and historical ships. Kelly has documented over 30 paintings of the SS United States before being relocated and dismantled. She aims to preserve the memory and cultural value of these vanishing landmarks, allowing them to endure through painting as they disappear from the physical world.
